ATM Security - Protecting Your ATM Card

What if I lose my card?

IMPORTANT - During non-banking hours please contact (800)523-4175 to report your lost or stolen card. Follow the instructions provided.

How do I prevent someone from getting my Personal Identification Number (PIN)?

  • Never write your PIN on or near your card. Memorize your number. No one can use your card without knowing the PIN.
  • Never give your PIN to anyone. Never tell anyone over the phone -- no matter who the caller claims to be.
  • Never give your card to anyone. It's like handing them a signed blank check!

What do I need to do to protect the card's magnetic stripe from damage?

Always put your card in a protective case and carry within your pocketbook or wallet. Keep your card away from heat, sunlight or anything magnetized. Also, don't let it get dirty or scratched.

How can I protect myself when I am using an ATM?

  • Be aware of your surroundings. ATMs are generally well lit and safe. But, if the lights are out, or if you notice anyone suspicious, leave the area and try again later.
  • Have your ATM card and any paperwork ready before you get to the machine. This not only saves you time, it allows you to pay more attention to your surroundings.
  • Be sure to take your receipt. It contains personal information.
  • When you walk up to an ATM, stand squarely in front of it. Don't let anyone see you enter your PIN.
